Dr. Mati joined Dobson DaVanzo & Associates, LLC as a Scientist in 2018. Dr. Mati is experienced in healthcare analytics with a focus on population health, using hospital, claims or survey data. At Dobson | Davanzo, Dr. Mati is involved in several outcome studies. He is currently analyzing multiyear Medicare Standard Analytic Files to identify disease episodes and/or usage of health services. Dr. Mati builds cohorts for longitudinal outcomes analyses and the evaluation of policy change.  

Prior to joining Dobson | Davanzo, Dr. Mati worked as researcher and data analyst at Eagle Technologies Inc., where he led the development of data disclosure process and the rolling of Mental Health Treatment Episode Data Set (MH-TEDS) into Mental Health Client Level Data (MH-CLD). Dr. Mati’s other professional experience includes serving in a statistical programmer specialist role at the Tennessee Department of Health, and Microeconomics and Macroeconomics instructor role at the Sate College of Florida. At the Tennessee Department of Health, he developed a complex probabilistic record linking program used for matching newborn hospital discharge files with their birth registry files. The resulting multiyear linked dataset was used for birth defect case confirmation by comparison of the ICD codes listed in the hospital files with the listed birth defect in the birth registry.  

Dr. Mati earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Laval University, Quebec Canada and a Master of Public Health degree in Biostatistics from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. After completing his Ph.D., he joined the Health Economics and HIV/AIDS Research Division of the University of Kwazulu Natal, South Africa, as a postdoctoral researcher. His broad base of experience and diverse educational background makes Dr. Mati well versed in advanced statistical modeling and impact evaluation. He has analyzed data from randomized trials, as well as observational studies, using different modeling approaches such as linear or logistic regression, survival analysis, data imputation, linear and non-linear randomized mixed models, and propensity score matching. Dr. Mati is a certified Advanced SAS Programmer with more than ten years of experience using different statistical packages (SAS, R, STATA, SPSS and MATHLAB) for analyzing large datasets.
