Matthew Shimer is an Associate at Dobson | DaVanzo. He joined the staff in 2011 after receiving his PhD in Physics from Virginia Tech. Dr. Shimer brings experience in analyzing and managing large data bases. His statistical expertise includes Monte Carlo simulations, multivariate regression analyses, and time series analyses. He has extensive experience in investigating highly correlated and disordered systems.

Dr. Shimer’s health care research expertise includes work with Medicare Cost Reports, as well as the Medicare Standard Analytic claims files.  He has used Medicare data and documentation to replicate Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) prospective payment system (PPS) market baskets. Also, he  recently completed an analysis of Medicare claims for orthotic and prosthetic services, and is currently working on a project for CMS to assist the Agency in implementing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) provisions concerning hospital disproportionate share payments (DSH).
